Home Remedies to Detox Your Body

Winter is almost over, flowers are blooming and everything is alive around you. Now is the right time for a spring cleaning.

Your home is not the only thing that will benefit from a spring cleaning.  Your body will also thank you for a thorough cleansing and you will not wind up fighting fatigue , but with more energy in the new season. Here are some home remedies to detox your body.Try one or more of these tips for an invigorating spring cure!

1. Fasting

Fasting can be beneficial for eliminating winter weight gain, detoxifying the body and boosting the immune system. In addition to giving the body the opportunity to free itself of dead weight, the renouncement of food also clears and cleans the spirit and the soul.

If you have never tried fasting and you are not sure how not eating normally may go for you, you can test yourself with a single fast day. On this day, for example, you will only eat stewed vegetables and drink a lot of herbal tea, very diluted vegetable juices and vegetable broth.

2. Detox Tea

Examples of this sort of tea: blood-purifying and regenerating nettle tea or an infusion of fresh dandelion roots are particularly suitable for your spring program.

Nettle is usable in many ways. As a juice, tea, salad or a smoothie, it provides plenty of vital nutrients and helps the body detoxify.

For dandelion tea, you need some dried dandelion roots. You can use ones you grew yourself from your herb garden or buy them online.

So this is how you prepare the root tea:

  • Dice the dried dandelion root.
  • Add 1 heaped teaspoon to 1 cup of cold water.
  • Let it sit for 12 hours.
  • Warm up the mixture in the microwave or on top of the stove.
  • Drink it half an hour before and half an hour after breakfast.

Tip: If this method of preparation is too time consuming, you can also eat the roots grated and raw.

3. Detox Yoga

Asanas (yoga poses), in which you rotate around your own axis, are especially suitable for detoxification. Rotations also stimulate intestinal activity and thus support your spring program optimally.

Since straight twisting movements and the preventive measures for the spine and inter vertebral discs are quite demanding, beginners should execute such twists while lying down. Then there is no weight on the discs and there is no risk of injury.

4. Eat Cleansing Foods

In order to give the body the opportunity to cleanse itself, you should do without heavy food, alcohol and caffeine for your spring detox. On the other hand, all green vegetables, especially cabbage, are desirable. You can prepare them as raw food, lightly steamed or as a soup or smoothie.

All spices are allowed, just be careful with salt. Bockshorn clover, chili, ginger or even chopped, fresh wild garlic is particularly suitable for seasoning in the detox cuisine.

The beetroot is also a real spring power house. It supports colon cleansing, stimulates metabolism and encourages cell renewal. The kidneys and the liver also benefit from its many valuable nutrients.

Sorrel is rich in vitamins, neutralizes toxins, has diuretic and blood-purifying properties, and therefore, if possible, belongs in a spring detox diet. The leaves can be used in tea, mixed into a smoothie or eaten in a salad.

5. Drink a Carob Smoothie

Carob or carob kernel flour is extracted from the fruits of the carob tree and can be processed very well for desserts and spreads or in cereal. A Carob Smoothie is also a great aid in your “body renovation,” because Carob replaces coffee and black tea, and contains a lot of fiber.

Carob Smoothie
Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of almond milk
  • 2 bananas
  • 2 cups of raw spinach
  • 4 Tablespoons of carob powder

Combine all ingredients in a blender and mix until smooth.

Yield:2 servings

6. Use Activated Charcoal

Activated charcoal will absorb harmful chemicals and toxins so they can be expelled from the body, without causing harm. This in turn works wonders for your health and natural beauty.

Take 20 mg of charcoal capsules divided into 3 doses for 2 days in a row. This needs to be done on an empty stomach so a suggested schedule is first thing in the morning, midday and bedtime. Do not take at the same time as other medications as the charcoal will absorb those as well.

Be sure to maintain adequate water intake. Consume at least 8 glasses per day.

7. Make a Lemon Detox drink

You can make a simple detox drink with lemons and anti inflammatory spices. This recipe is high in vitamin C. It is also  beneficial for cleansing and alkalizing your body. There are many detox drinks, but this one is especially  simple and delicious.

Hi Lisa! I am SO GLAD I ventured to your website! I have been looking to do a Spring detox to shed some weight for my daughter’s wedding in August, and also a trip to Aruba in June. I absolutely LOVE the ways in which to do this with all the healthy foods and drink! Some of them, such as the cleansing foods and smoothies, I am accustomed to. But others, I will try for the first time. I love the detox tea method and detox yoga, and I’m really excited to try the lemon detox drink recipe!

I have heard of activated charcoal and have even considered using it. It sounds great for detox and I’ve read its also good for your digestive system. Thinking of trying seeing that I have digestive problems. Have you ever tried using essential oils to help detox your body? Do you know of any that are good?

    1. admin says:

      Hi JD.

One easy way to use essential oils for a detox is to add them to bath water with Epsom salts or to a diffuser. for inhalation. Ginger, tarragon, peppermint, and oregeno oils are all good for digestive issues.

Thank you for the various detox recommendation which are very helpful. I was wondering if you have any recipes which can make eating cleansing vegetables look more appetising. I would like to convince my husband to try them as he likes meat more than vegetables. Also for lemon detox drink, can we still detox if we just drink lemon juice mixed with boiled water?

    1. admin says:

      Hi rmjia,

The best way to find a variety of cleansing vegetable recipes would be to look up detox vegetable recipes on line. That way you are likely to find ones to suite your personal tastes.
